Little Chicks Romping in the Wild (urban backyard)

Nobody likes Mondays. Monday’s are boring and stupid and statistically more people have more meetings on a Monday than any other day of the week. Mondays are for meetings and the only people who like meetings are bosses and managers. To all the bosses and managers out there, I’m sure you have other likeable qualities.

That is why this Monday I have brought you something to start your week off right. Something better than a meeting.

A video with my baby chicks and bluegrass music.

Giddyup.

I shot this video a few weeks ago so the chicks are actually much bigger than this now. Almost all their fluff is gone and they’re threatening to make a break from their brooder.

They still have a few more weeks of growing before I can start to integrate them with the older hens. Which I plan to do on a Tuesday because I’d imagine even chickens are in a bad mood on Mondays.

Tomorrow is Canada Day in Canada and I will be taking the day off. Which makes today, Monday, really Friday for me, because I’m off tomorrow. But that also means that Wednesday (when I’ll be back to work) is Monday. It’s all very confusing but I can assure you of one thing.

I will be eating hot dogs.

Just for the record, this manager HATES Mondays AND meetings. Meetings on Monday are the worst.

    Enjoy your holiday!!!!

  2. Stephanie Hobson says:

That’s why if I were working a four-day week I would want Monday off, not Friday. Just think – never to work on a Monday again!

  3. Kat says:

Hahaha! Had to watch it twice! That first little bum shot I thought it was going to squirt something on the camera and I sat back from the monitor…Loved it and thanks!

Well, I’m self-employed and I don’t have any meetings at all tomorrow (it’s just 7pm Sunday here in Hawaii). Buuuuut: it should be a weekend and I just put in a 12-hour day working on a “work” project, so all you peeps out there wishing you were your own boss, those hours sometimes work in your favor, sometimes not.

I don’t have chickens, but my two of my neighbors do, and they (the chickens, not the neighbors) have extended their free range to include my yard. This entertains my cats no end, and watching the cats stalk (they follow, but do not pounce) my neighbors’ chickens entertains me greatly. Good thing these chicks are much larger than your little lovelies. The kitties would pounce on that size, for sure.

I agree with Stephanie. One perk of working for yourself is that there are normally no “meetings.” At least those that have more than one other person in them. Most of those are on the phone and jammies are accepted attire. The downside is that there is no weekend. I consider a weekend two or three days off because I’m sick, or the errands have piled up, or the garden no longer looks like an actual garden, or I am down to my low-carb bars for food. Like tonight. I don’t mind the twelve-hour days, as long as I actually pushed forward in a problem.

I’m wondering if Stephanie can see the chickens with her cat on the prowl from her desk. I love watching Kitty outside with the birds and squirrels.

BTW, the video was great. I love the music you pick out for these things and look forward to the Coop Cam coming back. Sometimes, I would set it up on the laptop next to the study desk and could catch some action while worked.

So cute video! And I love that bluegrass music! Btw, check out Hozier (not bluegrass, but kinda blues) he’s from here and amazing!
Happy Canada and Hot Dog Day Karen!

  6. Tigersmom says:

Ha! You’re the only one I know of who could get me to listen to bluegrass this early. Twice, no less, because I had to watch and listen again and make sure I had heard the wonderful line, “You spilled all your secrets down the front of your party dress…” correctly.

That and to see those fluffy white heart shaped chicken butts again.

Enjoy your hot dogs and your day off.

Happy Canada day Karen! I’m about to head to The big town of Merrickville for a couple of days boating and fireworks ( if it doesn’t rain!), we’ll be eating Poutine and Pogos!!!!!
Thanks for the chicks video …..so adorable! Did you post a link to the band you have playing. I didn’t think I liked bluegrass but I like that. A Lot!

    • Karen says:

I didn’t link to them Tracey, but I’ll see if I can find one. The name of the band and song name is at the end of my video though. Their music came up on a “free, no license for use” music site. I was looking for instrumental bluegrass but found that song and loved it! ~ karen

  12. Amber says:

well that woke me right up! Yee Haw! Just came in from feeding the neighbors steer some older apples (they look so funny when they run over all greedy for apples) and now this. I’m feeling very country today. Thanks for the reminder of CDay, I’ll have to call my mum. And get out the hot dogs!

  13. Melissa in North Carolina says:

  16. Nancy Blue Moon says:

Very cute..the chicks and the song..Have a Happy Canada Day..and don’t be eating hot dogs until you puke or start rolling around on the ground moaning young lady..lol..

  17. Amber says:

The chicks are so cute. Haha when I first read your post, I read interrogate instead of integrate. The visual was rather amusing. Enjoy Canada Day!

  18. Kari says:

    Cuties!

  19. Happy Canada Day ! If I am honest I am a little insincere about that wish. I hate it when you take a day off. Something is missing. I’ll get over it though. Enjoy your hot dogs.

Karen! I spy a Norma Jr. The one that kicked the other out of the way. Straight grump. I love shim already!!!!

  26. Sally says:

Why do all baby animals have cute bottoms?

  27. Mia says:

Your chicks are adorable!! I have silkies and orpingtons, love my pet chickens!!! My condolences on the death of Norma, was her prolapse too severe to treat? Often a prolapse can be treated with sugar or prep H as both help to shrink swollen tissue, additional calcium can also be given in the form of calcium/tums tablets or liquid calcium as calcium helps stimulate muscle contraction which may help prolapsed tissue retract.

    • Karen says:

Hi Mia – No, Norma was fine when she went to bed and was 99% dead when I found her in the morning. 🙁 It was terrible. ~ karen

      • Mia says:

It is very heartbreaking when they die and unfortunately prolapse and egg binding issues are serious problems for our girls. Again my condolences,it would have been horrible finding her in the morning. That final kiss/hug goodbye is one we always remember.
