This Week’s Menu
March 5th – 11th.
As you know, I agreed to start writing out my weekly menu for you again on one condition. That condition being … there would be no funny. No humour, not little stories, no work. Just the menu. NO other writing.
I take that all back.
So, did ya hear the one about the girl, the blog and the Homie awards?
As of midnight tonight, the Art of Doing Stuff has been nominated for an Apartment Therapy Homie Award. Best DIY Blog category.
So that means I need to thank everyone who voted for me. Thank you! Ahem.
It also means I have to ask you to vote for me again, in this final round, which will end with the announcement of the winner on Friday.
To register so you can vote for me for an Apartment Therapy Homie, click here.

Thanks again for all of your votes. You’re my special friends. Who I know from the Internet. Which doesn’t really mean you’re my friends so much as … people from the Internet. Who the hell are you people anyway? You’re freakin’ me out.

Karen's Weirdly Curious Reader
Ok, so NOW I can go vote for you again? Is that what you mean?
And um, unless your name is Dan Quayle (or pluralizing it) “potato” has no “e.” It’s actually a political thing here in the U.S.
Wait… does that make this an international incident??? KAREN CAUSED AN INTERNATIONAL INCIDENT!!! WOOHOO!!!
Karen
Oop you’re right. Perhaps I was subconsciously pluralizing. ~ karen
Susan
I’m all worn out…. How bout cooking one of these dishes and I won’t have to! :-)
Susan
BTW…. I voted in each category for you and congrats you’re winning by a mile!
Liz
As one of these strange people from the internet I have noticed a typo :P
You missed the ) in Mon’s menu :-)
Doing maths at uni makes brackets very obvious
Cheers
Liz
Karen
It has since been rectified. I think you’ll all find the “Menu of the Week” will consistently have typos, spelling errors and general mayhem. (I do the menu very quickly ~ karen and yes … that lack of bracket was JUST for you. :)
Rachel
Did you get the idea for the Buddha Bowl from Fresh? That’s my favourite vegetarian restaurant EVER! Their Big Salad also rocks my world.
Karen
Yes m’am! ~ karen
Stefanie
Your readers (you’re totally leading the voting right now!!) can still save with the KAREN coupon and get a baby Buddha bowl at Favor the Earth so they can make your yummy Monday meal!
Karen
Huh? What’s a baby Buddha bowl? LOL. Must go look. :) ` karen
Kris
Thanks for the menu, just a tip, if you read it first thing in the morning, before you have your coffee, without your glasses on, you don’t even notice the mistakes!! I’ve never heard of Fresh or Favor the Earth, I’ll definately check them out. By the way, Karen, what do you win by being the best blog, a virtual trophy, bragging rights? Looks like you should start writing your acceptance speach!!
Karen
Hey Kris, Well … I win $50, LOL. The reason I want to win is because it’s such GREAT exposure for my website. I’ve been doing it for 2 years now and I devote 6 days a week, about 9 or 10 hours a day to it. It’s a lot of work but I LOVE it. I love the writing, the photography, the content and interacting with the readers, because my readers are pretty hilarious. So, more exposure means more money which means more cash for better posts and a greater chance I can continue to keep the blog going. Phew. So that’s what I win. :) Favor the Earth is one of my new advertisers. Great stuff. All recycled/green products. ~ karen!
Kris
That’s why you’re so good at at, because you LOVE doing it! “Follow Your Bliss”! And by the way, I just noticed that I spelled speech wrong, it was a sympathetic spelling error.
Karen
LOL! ~ karen
Pat
Karen, thanks for providing the links for us to vote. The last time I tried, things went sideways, but it worked this time. I work on a computer at work all day with oodles of programs and then get home and flounder with my laptop. It provides endless amusement for my teenage/adult children whose eyes must get tired from being rolled around in their sockets in exasperation. (But then they’ve never cooked a six course turkey dinner either!)
You deserve to win!
Robbin Caskenette
Hi Karen
What cashew chicken recipe do you use? I love it at the Thai restaurants, but didn’t like it when I tried to make it. I like the sweet, spicy with oranges version. Is that the same as yours?
Thanks!
Karen
Hi Robbin – I hope to post it next week. I don’t add oranges, but that’s a good idea! ~ karen
Micol
one vote from me :-)
Karen
Thank you Micol! ~ karen
Rebecca
Just voted. You’ve got a nice lead on the competition!
Jake
Can’t believe you do Tofu, you seem so normal.
Karen
I know. Illogical. ~ karen
TA @ Laptops and Lipgloss
I want to try making a dish with tofu so bad! That marinade looks scrumptious!
-TA
Karen
It’s really good! To make the buddha bowl, fill a bowl with brown rice, drizzle with warmed up spicy peanut sauce, top with marinated tofu (or chicken) and partially cooked bean sprouts. Drizzle entire dish with spicy peanut sauce again. ~ karen
Deb
Just voted for you, funny Lady!!! You’re ahead, by the way!!! Congrats!!!
Karen
Thanks Deb! I may not be ahead for long. That’s some pretty stiff competition I’m up against. ~ karen!
Susan
Yup, happily cast my vote for you again (not sure why they need round two though). Thanks for the Buddha Bowl reminder – will have to make it this week too.
Gayla T
Ok, enough with the Karen stuff. I found out today who you really are, Cameron. I kept thinking I knew you from somewhere and then I saw pic of you with your real name, Cameron Diaz and I had you! Now, why would a girl who makes the money you do making movies have to work that many hours a day for $50 a year is beyond me. So maybe your are getting ready for a new role as a funny, pretty chicken loving lady with a DIY blog. LOve it! I’m hoping they have written in a part of a chubby old lady with a house full of dogs cats and grandkids who thinks the star is wasting her life when she should be a stand up comedian with her own show in Vegas. Call me….we’ll do lunch.
Karen
Gayla – I think you’re confused. I’m actually Christie Turlington. ~ karen
Melissa L.
I know you are really Laura Howard… British… Canadian… there’s no difference really, is there?
:)

I don’t understand how you didn’t win the Bloggies. You were way above everyone point wise in the first round. I hope it’s a consolation that you are definitely 1st place in the hearts and minds (and chuckle boxes) of your rabid followers…I mean avid. We’ll get ‘em next year!
Karen
Hi Cindy! Thank you! But I’m not sure what you’re talking about, LOL. If you’re talking about the Apartment Therapy “Homie” awards, voting continues until Friday at noon. :) ~ karen
Cindy Marlow
My bad! I thought the voting ended at midnight last night. That must have been in the alternate universe that I sometimes live in. I’m so glad we have time to boost you back up to #1!!!
Jen Heicklen
Karen,
The way you are working vote getting, you would make one hell of a pimp. Good luck to ya! :)
Clare
Heading over there to vote as soon as I finish this note. Hope your migraine has gone away!
The thing I love about your menus is their split personality. Some nights you do the ‘my body is a temple’ thing and others you let rip with pork belly and mash, or steak and fries. It amuses me because it reminds me so much of my own eating patterns …
Karen
Clare – Life and food are all about balance. And potato chips. We always eat homemade meals though. No frozen foods and rarely any take out. Maybe once every 2 months. To me, as long as you’re making the pork belly yourself … you’re fine. (at least that’s my theory) Heh. ~ karen!
Karen
Oop! And thanks for the vote! ~ karen
Clare
My Grandmother used to say ‘all things in moderation’. Very very true. I love your pork belly theory! Hehehe. We also cook everything from scratch, or rather my husband does: he loves cooking, and I love eating his food. Match made in heaven. :)
Clare
ugh, it is typo central here today. *the thing I love about your menus ARE their split personality*
eeesh
ruth
yay, my vote counts! Congrats on your lead, Karen!
Karen
Thanks Ruth! But did you vote recently? Like today or yesterday? My lead is officially gone with this new round. At least it’s to a deserving blog. However … that doesn’t mean I don’t wanna win against them. ~ karen
Janey
Not a big voter. Most elections are rigged with dead people anyway…. well I guess that gave away that I’m in the U.S.
Voted.
Keep the kitten please.
Karen
Thanks Janey! I have also have a dead fern and some leftover apples if you prefer. ~ karen
Janey
oops… the “they make me sneeze” part got cut off.
am not a horrible kitten hating reader. promise.
Karen
LOL!!! ~ karen
YvonneM
Second Round! I’m vote #414, hang in there Karen, your followers will get you to the top once more!
ruth
Yup I voted again! and will continue to do so….
Felicity @ Our Little Beehive
I just stopped by via AT. I’m kind of in love. Love your blog, love that menu…but I won’t be sharing it with my husband. I’m afraid we’re still eating out of the freezer I stuffed chock full of meals before our 12 week old arrived!
Karen
Feicity – I can’t say I blame you. I *love* cooking but … I also love not cooking, LOL. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you vote for me! ~ karen p.s. When my niece had her latest baby girl, my present to her was bringing over all her family meals for the first 7 days. It went over WELL.
Lorrinda
I’m one of those weird internet cyberstalker people who enjoys lurking on your blog. But I never leave comments, so I figured the least I could do was click on your link and vote for you! I’m vote #507. Good luck!
Karen
Thank you Lorrinda! That’s fantastic. Thanks for coming out of your comment closet to help me out. I really appreciate it. ~ karen!
Patti
Ooh! Please share your chinese green beans recipe! Are they spicy? I loveeeee spicy chinese green beans and have yet to have found the perfect recipe!!!!

Lucy
Hi Karen: can you share your braised pork belly recipe, or post a link if you did in the past? Never made it ad I am curious to see how you do it. Thanks!
