Dear The Art of Doing Stuff readers in Canada.

I AM COMING TO A CONVENTION CENTRE NEAR YOU!  Kind of. I am coming to a convention centre, which may or may not be near you.

I am speaking at my very first blog conference, BlogPodium. I will be one of several speakers at the conference which is geared towards design and lifestyle bloggers in Canada.

The conference takes place on September 21st, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

I’ll be speaking about MONEY.  More specifically how to make money from your blog, whether it’s a hobby blog or a full time job blog.  You can read a little bit about me and my topic on the BlogPodium website here.

The conference is a full day event featuring myself, and a whole slew of other designers and bloggers including keynote speaker, Sarah Richardson.

Attendance to both the conference AND my seminar is limited so if you think you’d like to go you should book NOW!

To order tickets to the event, click here.

To book a seat for my seminar, click here.

I’m supposed to be very professional and organized for this thing with a Powerpoint presentation and everything.  I’m thinking of doing a puppet show instead.  Don’t tell the organizers.

If you’re thinking of attending, but are still undecided, consider this … I plan to bestow upon you every bit of information I have regarding how to increase your blog readership and therefore the amount of money you can make from your site.  And then I’m going to perform an interpretive dance.  With a badger.

I don’t do a lot of speaking engagements because they’re a lot of work frankly in terms of preparation and I already do a whole lot of work.  Um, hello!  I cut the toe off a sock.  I know all about hard work.

However, I had several people ask me several times over the past several years to speak at this conference so I decided I should do it for the humanity of my fellow bloggers.  Plus, I really do have a lot of information that I think you all could learn from.  Information about blogging that it’s taken me years to figure out, you will learn in a one hour seminar.

If you are unable to attend don’t get too worked up over it.  I plan to have someone videotape the interpretive dance.

  1. Thera says:

I don’t mind paying for things, I just mind paying exuberant amounts I cannot afford, so alas I will not be attending though I am in Ontario :(
I will however, be cheering you on, grats and I hope it’s a great success!

  2. Congrats on the conference! Lost my paddles in the great Alberta flood so I will have to take a raincheck. (bad joke) I really wanted to see your puppet show:( Have fun :)

  3. Maria G. says:

I am looking forward to your seminar. It’s really helpful for bloggers and those who are planning to blog like me, but not quite sure how to start and whether money can really be earned through blogs. I’m looking forward to be inspired by your seminar. Blogging can be fun but sometimes it helps to listen to tips first. :)

  4. Mondo says:

wish you were giving a lecture in California…

  5. I was excited last week when I saw you on the schedule. Congratulations! I’m looking forward to your session.

  6. Susan says:

I’m sure you’ll do an excellent and thorough job. For those who cannot attend, I suggest making available, for a fee, the information you share at the conference. If it’s not video-taped, so you can sell copies of the tape, then use your presentation to do an ebook, and sell it on your blog. You worked hard to make your blog successful; you deserve to make some money off sharing that information with others. You have already shared some of your ideas, anyway. Go ahead and charge for having put them into a reference manual of some sort.

    • Karen says:

Hi Susan. Thank you for the support! A lot of people seem to get offended when bloggers charge for certain things. The idea of some sort of ebook has been on my mind for about a year now so you never know. ~ karen!

      • Susan says:

You’re welcome. You’ve done a great job with your blog. You have shared a great deal of free “how to” regarding monetizing a blog already, so I’d be surprised if anyone who follows you now would be offended. And you can always list the book on Amazon, which removes it from your blog entirely and lets it stand on its own. I’ll keep my eye out for your ebook!

      • Natika says:

The gals over at A Beautiful Mess have part of their blog devoted to e-courses. I think you could totally get away with it!

  7. Janet says:

Please, please, please….could you video tape the whole thing and would you make it available for all of us out of towner, stater, countryers, who can’t attend? Washington state is a long way away.

  8. Shauna says:

Speaking of making money, I’ve been trying to remember to click on your Amazon links each time I buy from Amazon. I think I’ve remembered a whopping twice. That’s not good considering how much I actually shop on there, but I promise to try to improve.

I look forward to any video or information you are able to post from your conference.

    • Mariaurora says:

Quick tip: if you bookmark the amazon page after clicking the link it remembers to give Karen credit. So then shop away and support our favorite blogger :)

  9. Becky says:

    Hi Karen,

BlogPodium is going to be my first blogging conference. I was excited in a general sort of way but now that I know there’s gonna be an interpretive dance involving a badger?…..Well now I know this party is gonna be off the hook!

  10. Nancy Blue Moon says:

Make us proud Karen..Why does Canada have to be so far I don’t have a blog..but I love puppet shows..and badgers are cute!

  11. Julie says:

Yeah, that’s not at all near me. I am sad that I cannot come. I can’t grumble too much though as I am going to the International Food Bloggers Conference (IFBC) that very same weekend in Seattle.

I hope it goes well, and I really do hope you will post a video of it or some sort of recap of the info!

  12. Cindy says:

Any chance you could blog about blogging for those of us who live too far away to attend the conference?

  13. Juliet says:

Yeah for the video! The commute from Georgia would be tough!

  14. Bethany says:

OK, I’m going to be a big nerd here and say, I’m SO proud of you!!!! I love reading your blog every day and am glad you’re spreading the love around. Makes me wish I was Canadian so I could attend.

  15. Can’t wait to meet you at the conference Karen!

  16. KiwiKat says:

But will it be as literally interpretative as the original badger song –

  17. Elaine says:

    Look forward to the video.

  18. Natika says:

Ah!!!!! I live on the other side of the planet!!!! Oh wait… I don’t have a blog…

But I do want to see the interpretive dance and the puppet show. ( ;_;)

  19. Jenna says:

Looking forward to the interpretive dance video recap and sad I will not be able to attend!

  20. Marti says:

    Interpretive dance? Oh, the Humanity!
