Cubit’s as you know is one of my favourite seed companies and I’ve been working with Laura from Cubits for a few years now. Lovely girl. Never met her. But that’s about to change because Cubit’s is the very first seed company ever to show at Canada’s One of a Kind Show. And I’m going.

And so are one of you!

The One of a Kind Show is every designers, buyers, crafters, shoppers dream. No less than 3 of the Christmas presents I received this year came from there. It’s like craft crack.

So if you’re within driving distance of Toronto and you’d like to come out and see the show between March 26th and the 30th here’s your chance to win a couple of tickets.

Laura from Cubits (the lovely girl mentioned above) would like to give away 2 free tickets to the show. Right here and right now.

If you go to the show then you TOO can meet Lovely Laura.

Just leave a comment telling me you’d love to go to the One of a Kind Show.

For those of you who can’t go, feel free to comment on what goods above put a Spring in your step.

The contest is now closed.

I would LOVE to go to the One of a Kind show. It is important to support these artists and it is fun shopping for stuff you don’t normally see.

  7. Grammy says:

Oh, those beautiful ollas make me jump for joy, and that’s no easy feat for a clumsy old broad like me. It would be wild fun to go to the OOAK show, but that’s not an option for me. But a couple of ollas, that’s definitely do-able.

  8. Sue says:

I’m in love with the font you used for “Hello”, and the rough linen, and the ollas, and the signs, and the seeds, though I have to get them elsewhere…
I’m nowhere near Toronto, so I’ll have to wait and hope you do a whole post about how great it was with loads of pictures and then sigh and wish I could have gone.

  9. Susan Preston says:

I’m close by! And would love the chance to go to the one of a kind show! I got my fur hat at the winter show many moons ago. It’s a fabulous show! Pick me, pick me! Thanks!

  10. Biggi says:

I’m only an hour out of Toronto, so YES, I’d love to go to the spring show! Many moons ago I went to a winter show. It was mindbogglingly inspiring! So many talented people! And I’d like Cubits seeds, please 🙂

  11. Jebberjay says:

To celebrate spring this year, I am going to build an igloo! Yay spring!!! I can’t make the OOAK show though. Drats.

  12. Kim says:

I would LOVE to go to the Spring One of a Kind Show. I’ve been to the Christmas one many times but never the spring. Although I won’t be able to go this year (still out of the country), I know at least 2 deserving people who can and would love to go in my place if I were to win the tickets and, who knows, maybe pick up a gift for me! Now THAT’s what I can a “Win Win”! 🙂

  13. Mary says:

    Hi Karen,
Remember me? I’m the one that’s only ever won a can of peanuts at a Brownie banquet. I’d love to go to the Spring One of Kind Show. Just sold my house and will be moving soon – I could really use the break.
    Thanks. M.
P.S. I continue to enjoy reading your blog every day.

  14. Tigersmom says:

Texas is within driving distance of Toronto, right?

Perhaps if I left today, like right now, without packing even a sandwich for the road?

Oh well, think of us that are too far away while you shop the goodies and be sure to buy yourself something wonderful.

  15. Linda J Howes says:

Cement Tiles intrigues me as my kitchen is a galley disaster and in need of a major overhaul. I have a cousin who shows there every year, although I have never gone, wait, once, years and years ago, in it’s beginnings.
My cousin, Blake Richardson, creates Earth Art, very cool, you might like it. Check him out if you get a chance.

  16. I really want to go to the OOAK Show! I also want to meet your chickens!

  17. Maggie V says:

I am in Fla Karen but I would love for my daughter Melanie and her Aunt Marilyn to go together. You know Marilyn and you know she is an avid gardiner so who better to meet a seed lady than my sister? Have a great first day of spring day Karen

  19. Maggie V says:

I am in Fla Karen but I would love for my daughter Melanie and her Aunt Marilyn to go together. You know Marilyn; therefore you know she is an avid gardner with numerous Trillium awards so who better to meet a seed lady than Marilyn. Have a great first day of Spring day Karen

  21. I would take my daughter to the One of a Kind so we can catch up and support creative entrepreneurs.

  22. Mary Kay says:

I wish I could go to the one of a kind craft show – it sounds AWESOME! And I just ordered some seeds from Laura – she is a great gal! But I am wondering about the Olla – have you tried using one? I have done some research and I love how these work. I plan on revamping my garden next year by raising my garden beds to make it easier to tend to and was thinking of incorporating these into the plan. Was wondering what your thoughts are.. Thanks!

    • Ev says:

In reply to the olla question- 2 years ago we had a dry summer (Northeast Ohio), so last year I got an olla from a place in Texas. Not expensive, but the shipping was! Anyway, we buried as directed and I kept water in it. Trouble was, we had a wet season, so I still don’t know if they would help. The tomato plants did not send their roots to it-they didn’t need to! Have not decided whether to use it this year. Of course if we don’t we’ll have another dry season! I do think they are a great idea. Good luck!

      • Mary Kay says:

Ev – I too live in Northeast Ohio! So it is always a question of what are we going to get!! My husband and I are thinking of putting in trough like beds up off the ground that the Olla might be a great option for keeping the beds watered.

    • Ev says:

To Mary Kay re:ollas We did raised bed gardening years ago and I am thinking of doing it again. Weed control is so easy, picking is easy, and water control is easy. If we had done that last year everything would have done better. Maybe 8 ft beds with two olla per eight tomatoes , 4 grouped around each olla. They would not work for line crops,l ike peas, etc, unless you had a LOT of ollas!

  23. paula says:

I would so love to go to the One of a Kind craft show. I would take my Mum, she is fun to hang with and would not throw me shade if I embarrass myself squealing every time I see something that is one of a kind.

I’d love to take my daughter to the show for her birthday. What a great way to celebrate spring!

  31. Ruth says:

I’d love to go to the One of a Kind Spring Show. Love to.

  32. We had a pile of snow just yesterday so I think spring missed our house 🙁 I am keeping my snowshoes handy for another week or so before I get out the toenail polish….but when I do, they will be pretty fancy with all the pins there are on artsy nail polish! God knows I have had a long enough sit down to pin a lot of them! Cheers to meeting your buddy. Hope you have a good time Karen!

  33. Bols says:

Lately, I have been giving some serious thoughts to carving out a section of my lawn and converting it into a garden bed. Now that I have only one dog, I may get away with it. Imagine, I could have my own lettuce (although not two 50-lb sacks of potatoes) just like Karen!!

And, if I ran into Karen at the One of a Kind, I would buy her a nice latte with chocolate sprinkles on top (or cinnamon, or both). I might even buy some linen bedding from Rough Linen because that has been on mind as well.

  34. shelli says:

i would love to go to the one of a kind show!

  35. Deirdre Fowler says:

I want to go! I want to go! I want to go!

One of a Kind, Yes Please!

  38. kate-v says:

OOAK show is too far away from me so I can’ t go, but I would love to have more ollas here for my garden in No. CA. Because of drought-driven water restrictions we have to rethink our usual summer garden plans.

Would love to go to the one of a kind show with the new babe!

  40. Melissa in North Carolina says:

    Please? Pretty Please?

  42. Sylvia says:

I’m from London (Ontario) and a One of a kind virgin (really). I’d love to go just to pick up some Black Krim tomato seeds. Also Loving the rough linen summer cover but the Orkneys are a little far away.

  43. christine says:

I would love to go to the One of a Kind Show. I’ve been looking at the ads. Also, was wonderng if those cement tiles could go over an existing backsplash. Hmm.

  44. Grace says:

Yay! I would love to go to the show 🙂 I’m always looking to find interesting and one of a kind things. I am pretty terrible at it. But having it all in one place, that would train me to be a better finder of awesome crafts!

  45. Ruth says:

Speaking of seeds…. whatever became of the seeds that were up for grabs forever and a day ago? I have a suspicion they got sealed in to that fancy brick wall in your kitchen…. hmmmm

  46. Anne Borden says:

I would really love to attend the One of a Kind show, and I can drive there, you know we’re neighbors- Ontario and Michigan. And I really love Toronto!

  47. Monika says:

I take my mom every year to the OOAK Show! It’s a tradition I absolutely LOVE. We look forward to it every year – a tradition I hope never has to end!! Slowly walking the aisles, tasting all of the great food, and of course, buying one of a kind items I get to show off. Would love free tickets to take her!!!

  48. Catherine says:

I’d LOVE to go to the OoaK show! I’ve been to the Christmas one a bunch of times, but never made it to the Spring one. This is the year that that needs to change 🙂

Definitely able, willing and anxious to go to the spring OOAK – haven’t been in eons!!! In the mood to shop I am. Would love to see Lovely Laura since I bought seeds from her last year (by mail). 🙂

  50. Babs says:

Please, I have 5 birthdays in April (mine plus 3 children and a son-in-law)…all at ages/stages of their lives where gifts are more symbolic and where they are now mature enough to know that something handmade, unique and carefully chosen is sooo much better than mass produced “stuff” made in some third world country by poor folk in highly questionable working conditions. So, make me feel really good about myself, enable me to support some wonderful Canadian artisans and get all my shopping done in one afternoon!

p.s. am planning on doing my toenails tonight in decidedly spring shades so that I too can greet spring with pretty toes!!
