Cuddles. The little chicken so aptly named because all she wanted to do was sit in my lap and have her belly rubbed.
Cuddles. The little chicken that followed me with her eyes since she was a day old.
Cuddles. The little chicken that would quietly post for pictures in my arms whenever a newspaper, magazine or friend wanted to snap a shot.
Cuddles, the little chicken who cheated death on too many occasions to count, has died.
I'll tell you more a little later about what happened. Just not now.
Thank you to everyone who worried, offered advice, shed a tear or broke into a smile because of her these past 5 years.
Have a good weekend.
Karen

PS That photo of the two of you deserves a very special vintage olde worlde frame. It's beautiful.

Beautiful photo. Our relationship with our non-human companions runs deep, enriches our lives and makes us better people.

I am so sorry for your loss Karen. Grief is not something to be compared with other grief. She was your baby and you were the very best Mummy Cuddles could possibly have hoped for. She had some special needs and you gave her the best life she could have asked for if she had talked and told you what she wanted.
I talk from experience. My boy only got 20 years but he had the best 20 years a Brady could ask for and from his point of view the best death. Not for the observer, but for him.
I sure hope your Cuddles got the very best one for her. She got the best chook house, how many others get a mummy that cuddles them and rubs them. Most mummies would think 'dont be stoopid, chickens dont like tummy rubs". You didn't.
Gentle hugs for you from all who care about you and yours and let that water fall from your eyes, it is grief water and it needs to come out, apparently. xxx

Chicken Mom
So sorry to hear this. It's not just a chicken. She was a beloved pet that made you happy and smile.
Losing a hen is hard especially after you've fought so hard to save her in the past.
May the memories you carry of her sweetness one day help the sorrow in your heart.
She was a beautiful hen with lots of lovely stories been shared. She will be missed.
Take the time you need.
Barbara

Dear Karen, I hope you can accept my poem. It is one of a kind, written by me. I hope it helps you heal in your sad time.
...Unnamed
I know today,
you're already gone.
And nothing I do,
can stop that wrong.
My tears flow,
like a lullaby.
But, still you've
vanished
into the sky.
Now today is tomorrow,
tomorrow's not far.
Yet nor shadows,
Nor forecasts, predict
Mend of my scar.
Yesterdays pass.
Todays won't last.
And tomorrows wishes
Won't change life's track.
So, I'll cherish
Our days.
The great many ways.
That you filled my,
Heart with your love!

Karen, my heart goes out to you. Keep strong. Sending my blessings, and the understanding that comes with loss.

Dagmar, that is a beautiful gift. Cuddles will be missed more than any other chicken. That is because of the love and care you gave her Karen. She is a sweet little reflection of your love. I'm sorry.

"When you are sorrowful, look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight."

I'm so sorry to hear that Cuddles has died. That's horrible news.
Thinking of you. RIP Cuddles.

Very sorry, Karen. I have a pet so I know exactly what you mean. They are not "just" anything. They are everything, just about.

Oh, Karen, I am so sorry. I know, believe me, whatever type of animal we are lucky enough to have in our family is dearly lost. It got me when you said she followed you with her eyes. My dear sweet chocolate lab is my best friend and does the same thing, even when he is outside doing his business. He was diagnosed in October with Pancreatic cancer with 3 - 6 months to live. So far, so good. Requires constant feedings around the clock to keep blood glucose in check. I don't know what will happen or what organ that god damned C will hit next. I'm hoping it will be slow paced enough that I will know when it is time. I am so sorry.

So sorry.

I have birds & know your pain. Crying with you. {{HUGS}}

I am so sorry. I just rescued a sweet chicken from the side of a very busy street. She had been hurt badly by some predator and was huddled against a sound wall. I brought her home, made a little coop to keep her safe and am taking care of her until I get her new coop up and running. I love her so much and can only imagine how much Cuddles touched your heart. She was loved. You were wonderful to her. xoxo Take care.

So sorry for your loss. She was beautiful.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Karen. Her being "just" a chicken doesn't diminish the grief. Hugs to you.
