I’ve been sitting here staring at my computer trying to figure out some clever, cute little way to start this post.  For like half an hour I’ve been doing that.  Then I realized nobody wants to read anything this morning anyway, they just want to know if they’re one of the 5 winners of the Great Gargantuan Giftmas Giveaway.

So all that time, that entire half hour, could have been spent doing something else entirely.  And at this time of year there’s no shortage of things that need to get done.  That half hour would have been much better put to use napping.  Or staring at a lamp.  Two of the things I seem to think are very, VERY important when I’m overwhelmed.

I’m pretty good at handling a lot of tasks at once, but every once in a while my eyes go big and round, my mouth drops open a little bit and I go from highly respected “In control Karen” to “Every single thought in my head is a big black scribble that I can’t make sense of Karen”.  I often think of ordering a heart defibrillator on-line.  I’m very positive a quick touch of those paddles to my temples would snap me right back into action.  I’d maybe even be able to speak Finnish afterwards.

Look at that. I forgot.  You want to know if you’re one of the winners of The Great Gargantuan Giftmas Giveaway.  Sorry.  Like I mentioned a bit earlier I’m suffering from debilitating case of Black Scribble Brain at the moment.

The list of winners is in the order. So the first winner gets first pick, the second winner gets second pick, and so on.

Congratulations to the winners!

If you see your name and comment in the list email me at karen@theartofdoingstuff.com to pick your two prizes!

If you DIDN’T win but have been wanting Rough Linen forever, Tricia has dropped the price of ALL Rough Linen (excluding already reduced bundles) by 20% for today only.  She has NEVER done this before.  It’s a Black Friday, one time only sale, for only 24 hours.

I’ll be decorating my house for Christmas this weekend so it’s all ready for December 1st.  I’m doing fairly well with my Christmas Pledge this year actually.  I’ve bought all but two presents, addressed, written and stamped all the Christmas cards, made some cookie dough and chugged my first carton of egg nog.

All that will be left to do in December is eat shortbread cookies and eat shortbread cookies.  Which I’m not sure I’ll have time for because I’ll be so busy eating shortbread cookies.

Have a good weekend and I’ll see you on Monday.

  1. Lesley says:

    Congratulations, winners!

  2. Dagmar says:

Congratulations to all …wheh, now my keyboard won’t work, and I can’t use my exclamation point. Just out of luck altogether. I never entered before, so now at least I can complain that I never win, with actually having had entered. Oh well. Lee Valley, here I come.

  3. Nanette says:

  4. Teresa Jennings Richardson says:

I see you misspelled my name a little. Of course I understand–the letters in Conrad are so close to the letters in Teresa that that would be an easy mistake to make. Congrats to the lucky winners. Maybe next year….

  5. AB Karen says:

I ordered my seeds from cubits already, I guess I already knew deep down that a win was not in the cards! I’m lucky in love so that makes up for my lousy luck in contests!

  6. Kathleen says:

    Congratulations winners! Enjoy your prizes!

    Have an awesome weekend, all.

  7. Paula says:

Yay! I got the notification this time 🙂 Congrats to the winners.

I received the Rough Linen email and placed my order about an hour and a half ago – shipping was $47 US!! Of course, then I realized that the sale is Friday so I sent her an email asking if I should cancel that order and reorder, nothing is simple. ever. Then there was the Roots order (25% off today), Amazon, and Toys R Us. Christmas shopping is so much better when you don’t have to leave your house.

  8. Grammy says:

Congratulations winners! I’m feeling particularly good today because it was Thanksgiving here in the U.S. and my family behaved nicely and there were no arguments and the dog didn’t get fed anything that made him sick and the six-year-old said one of the things he’s most thankful for is “that Grammy tries to focus.” Happy shopping, everyone.

  9. Traci says:

Congratulations, winners!! Now off to shop the incredible sponsors!!

  10. Ann Brookens says:

Well, Karen, your incredible software didn’t draw my name. Maybe you could send me some shortbread as a consolation prize? Yeah. That would be good.

  11. Miriam Mc Nally says:

    Congrats winners!
I will have to look at rough linen now , 20% off is too good to resist!

  12. Maureen Locke says:

Congratulations to all the winners… off to Rough Linen to check things out. Have a wonderful weekend Karen… and you know, that eggnog is yummy with rum….. or Baileys…. or whatever your pleasure is 🙂

  13. MaryJo says:

Black Scribble Brain–thank you, Karen–I now have a name for my disease!! =0)

  14. Deb says:

Congrats to the winners! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and can enjoy the rest of their weekends.

  15. Trish says:

Boohoohoo, But don’t have time to say thanks Karen cause I’ve been waiting for a sign to buy the ruff linen sheets and that 20% is sure that sign yahoohoo!
    thanks Karen XOXO

  16. Nancy Blue Moon says:

    Congratulation to all winners!

  17. Jan in Waterdown says:

OK, so as one of the losers, I should say congratulations to the winners. That would be very nice of me. But, as I see it, I had promised to cherish Karen forever if my name was picked. So now I’m off the hook. Whew!

  18. Cred says:

Whoa, you’ve described, perfectly, how I’ve been feeling the last couple of weeks. I’ve been known to procrastinate a time or two- mainly when I keep getting interrupted or know I will be interrupted (who thought kids were a good idea) BUT this is completely different- I can’t do even the smallest of tasks. I just can’t keep my brain sorted.
Send that defibrillator my way when your done with it.

    Congrats to all who won!

  19. Suzanne says:

    Congrats to the winners.
Karen, in my family, we have borrowed another Karen’s description of the afore mentioned malady; “shiny object syndrome”. Wandering around getting distracted by one thing or another, in lieu of finishing anything… Welcome to my world!

  20. Su says:

Congrats to all the winners! super dissappointed it wasn’t me but I’m happy for all of them 🙂

  21. Penny says:

Karen, your Black Scribble Brain sounds a lot like my Headful o’ Bees syndrome, where all one’s thoughts refuse to settle and just swarm around like bees. I also suffer from the round-eyed, open-mouthed thing when using a computer mouse – it appears to a casual observer that I have the IQ of moss and am trying to steer the cursor with my chin. AND I have ‘Shiny Object Syndrome’ like Suzanne, but it’s known to my family as ‘SQUIRREL!!’ syndrome because of my resemblance to the easily-distracted talking dog (can’t remember his name, naturally) in the film Up. It’s a wonder anything gets done around here, but my kids very sensibly lowered their expectations of me over the years and as a result have become self-sufficient, responsible, tolerant and forgiving adults. I’m counting that as a victory!

  22. TucsonPatty says:

I’m counting myself as a winner because of the scroll that I took throughout the entire Rough Linen website, the reading og the wonderful comments after the GGGG, and because I forgot to set my alarm last night and still awakened on time this morning! Cheers, everyone.

  23. Marti says:

Hellacious disappointing. Send me a chicken or I’m slitting my wrists.

  24. Jody says:

Congrats to all. Thank you Karen for the chance.

  25. Cindy Blackwell says:

Thanks for sponsoring such a fun event! Congrats to the winners. I have to say I am just a little jealous.. Or is that envious? The confusion Is cause the scribble has arrived. Mine is not black, but rather every color in the box, especially the bright ones.

  26. peg says:

thanks for doing the great giveaway 😀

  27. karin says:

congrats to the winners, feel free to pass your gift on to me :0B

    have a great weekend, Karen.

  28. Lynn Carmichael says:

Comment re Rough Linen. I had an order ready to go today, Fri, Nov 27th and when I went to check out there was no 20% off offered as you had indicated . Was that offer for Thursday or Friday? I did send an email to Rough Linen but did not hear back so I guess I missed out. I was not able to call them during the day or evening today so never did find out. Will still order the pinafore as it is so adorable and is something I have been looking for. Thank you for introducing the web site to me.
Love your blog and your incredible sense of humour, you are a breath of fresh air.

    • Karen says:

Hi Lynn! I’m checking into it right now, but there definitely is a 20% off sale on all Rough Linen today. I know she doesn’t have anything on the site saying 20% off because I emailed her to let her know. I’m waiting to hear back from Tricia (who I’m sure is getting slammed with emails today). As soon as I hear anything I’ll let you know! ~ karen!

      • Carla says:

        I had same problem!

        • Karen says:

Hi Carla. The discount is done on Rough Linen’s end. So it’ll look like you’re paying full price but once the order goes through she only charges you the price of what it would be with 20% off. Something to do with deciding to do this sale very recently and not being able to readjust all the prices on her site in time. ~ karen!

        • Carla says:

          Thanks! That’s awesome!

    • Karen says:

Hi Lynn. You just check out and they apply the discount on their end. Your bill will say a certain thing but you’ll only be charged the 20% of price. ~ karen!

  29. Lyn says:

    Onnea suomi , on vaikea!

  30. Larraine says:

If you’ve already chugged a carton of eggnog, we know you don’t get the best in the area because Hewitt’s Premium is not even getting to the stores until Black Friday — or Superior Eggnog Friday.

    • Karen says:

Ah! But what if I don’t want the best? What if the best will prompt me to chug cartons and cartons of it and I know this about myself therefore intentionally purchase subpar eggnog? Because that’s totally possible. Just ask the no name potato chips in my cupboard. ~ karen!

  31. Sabina says:

Yay! Thats me! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! And thank you, Karen, for such a great blog. I’m so glad I stumbled on it. Your sense of humor, hell your sense of life, matches mine and I’m always looking forward to new posts. And, if I might add, you have the best followers/commenter too. Can’t wait to get my prizes. Happy Holidays everyone!

  32. Laura Bee says:

Lucky winners! Love your style, love your humour and I love Shortbread cookies too, no matter if they are a True Cookie or not. My sister & I use the Five Roses Cookbook recipe.

    • Karen says:

Aw, thanks Laura! I’ll look up that recipe! I made some the other night with the 1,2,3 method. 1 cup sugar, 2 cups butter, 3 cups flour. Only I did it all with 1/4 cups and made about 6 shortbread cookies, lol. I couldn’t be bothered to make a big batch. ~ karen!
