Science Experiment:
conclusion Coke! The real thing

Will Coke dissolve a T-Bone steak in 2 days like the forwarded email my mother sent me says?

Read this if you didn’t catch the initial post on this experiment!

My experiment started 2 days ago when I dropped a T-Bone steak into a bowl and covered it with Coke.  DON’T WORRY!  I got the steak on sale ’cause it was kind of rotten.

I did this you see, because of a wildly popular Internet “forward”.  It goes into great detail to describe the perils of Coke.  I mean, I know it’s not what  you would call good for you;  but could it possibly be THAT bad?  Will it take the rust off a car?  Dissolve an entire steak in 2 days?

Uh … no.  It won’t.

2 days ago I put an entire T-Bone steak into a bowl and filled it with Coke.  Just for the taste fun of it.

After 2 days this is what the steak looked like.  Just looks marinated to me.

Yet again the Internet lies.  Coke will NOT dissolve a T-Bone steak in 2 days.  I suspect it might not even dissolve a cube of sugar in 2 days.

I wonder if that steak could now be classed as cooked? You know, like how the acid in lemon juice cooks oysters and all that jazz? Maybe i just made that up?

  2. thebeezkneez says:

We cook our ham in coke. And we have used it to get the corosion off the car battery. And we enjoy it over ice….even after the frightening email.

Here on the prairies, guys from the oil patch throw in a can of coke with their overalls to get’em clean. It works on oil stains. Even some of the drycleaners/laundromats in town use it. Just use it on stuff that you want to be brown. 🙂

  4. flattireTuesday says:

haha… That is what I heard from the dry cleaners in town (a pretty reliable source at the time, seeing as they did about 75% of the patch guy’s laundry)… I realized after I wrote that how silly I felt, mostly due to the fact that I’ve never tried it, because we don’t buy coke. Thus, there’s never a stray can wandering around to throw in when (read if) I do wash my guy’s overalls. I’m going to try it soon, because his are starting to look atrocious. They’re clean(ish) but atrocious.

I wish you didn’t have dates on your comments, then it wouldn’t show how long it took me to get around to testing coca-cola on the hubs work clothes. But he got a patch job and his clothes reeked of diesel, I actually got desperate enough to buy coke and try it. While the stains didn’t completely go away, they are definitely less prominent, his pants actually look clean, and an added bonus is the coke somehow conquered the stench.

I have heard that coke with dissolve rust on a rusted bolt allowing it to be removed. Makes you wonder what it does to our insides. But I don’t wonder too long because then I might not drink it anymore and we don’t want that now do we? Of course, I could convince myself it is only regular coke and I drink diet. I’ll go with that and quote it is fact!

  6. Jen- says:

Of course it didn’t work! Those forwarding that silly little email forget that down south they marinate hams in coke or dr. pepper for a while and then bake them. It makes a sweet ham and surprisingly good syrup. I still prefer a citrus glaze when I make them, but that’s a good ol’ southern tradition. Silly internet!

  7. Teresa says:

however there has been a live news report about how people in 3rd world countries use coke as a pesticide because it works just as well as regular pesticide but they can get it for cheaper. kinda makes you think

  8. Jordan says:

My boyfriends mother has a feeding tube. The nurse told us that if it gets clogged we should inject coke into it, and it will dissolve the blockage. Scary true story!

  9. Krissy says:

Try it with fresh pineapple juice – its a natural meat tenderizer…that might turn your steak into mush!

  10. Joesph says:

I wonder How It taste Like When Its Cook While It Been Sitting In That Coke
