The Lookmatic Contest Winners.
Plus a look at the glasses I chose.

You wanna know how I knew these were the right glasses to pick? It only took 2 shots to get a half decent photo of me in them. And that was just with my crappy laptop camera. Imagine the thing of beauty I would be with a little lighting and maybe a shot or two of Botox or Restylane.

Or bangs. Bangs are cheaper than Botox. Plus you can still move your forehead with bangs. Conversely, while Botox limits any movement of the forehead, it will almost guarantee you a role on Modern Family.

I went with the Holly frames.  They weren’t my favourite glasses from the Lookmatic site, but they were the ones I  knew would look the best on me.  My favourites were actually the Uncle Leonard and the Jesse but they proved too large for my scientifically documented tiny head.

Yup.  Toooo big.  They were too darn big.  On my head.  I know this for a fact because I ordered them and physically tried them on.  They were BIG.  So I resolved to pack them up and send them back.

And then promptly didn’t.

What choice did I have but to keep the Jesse’s to see if they grew on me.  Or shrunk on me.  They didn’t shrink but I did grow to like them.  So I kept em too.

They make me feel super-cool and studious all at the same time. What more could one want from a pair of glasses?  I mean aside from x-ray vision. The other thing I like about the Jesse’s is the fact that they have a wide arm.    They give the glasses more of an authentic “old man” feel.  If you know what I mean you appreciate that fact.  If you don’t know what I mean, trust me.  It’s a good thing.  The other thing I like about them is the silver thingamabob on either side of the frames.

Speaking of glasses, you’re probably wondering which among you won a pair. I’m getting to that. Right now as a matter of fact.

To claim your glasses just send me an email at and I’ll get the ball rolling.

Didn’t win? Don’t worry. Use the code SpringFrames to get 15% off your Lookmatic glasses for the next week. (April 17th – 24th)

  2. Amie Mason says:

Jesse! They look fabulous! Very hipster

  3. Mary Werner says:

LOVE the Jesse on you most or maybe it is that great smile. No, the smile is great but I do love those glasses! (I think the red ones are too little!

  4. Rebecca Martin says:

Hipster supreme! My 15 year old daughter went as a hipster last Halloween & wore almost identical glasses to the “Jesse”–except hers were 3-D glasses swiped from the movie theater with the lenses popped out. By the way, your eyes look SO beautifully sky blue in those!! Love your blog!

  5. toekneetoni says:

    you look great Karen. 🙂
    sorry, i mean: \_(^_^)_/

  6. Mel says:

Okay so this is totally unrelated to today’s post, but I have to share.
I just read on CP24 that Health Canada is looking to ban rare earth magnets because they can cause serious problems if swallowed.
I remember that you used the magnets to keep your gate shut, and I thought I would warn you to not swallow the magnets. I know I think they look tasty. Nom nom nom.

    • Karen says:

Mel – Phew. Glad they warned us. Now if someone had only warned me about shards of glass, fireworks, big hunks of lead. ~ karen!

  7. Jeannie B says:

Both pairs of specs look great on you Karen. I don’t wear prescription glasses but I’ve always worn big sunglasses. My kids used to made fun of them back in the ’90’s but they’re back in fashion again. You do have beautiful blue eyes! And I love that hanging light fixture. It’s so pretty. Is it tough to keep clean?

    • Karen says:

Jeannie B – Thanks. On all accounts. The light is from Ikea. And yes, it’s a pain to clean. Not particularly difficult … just a pain. ~ karen!

  8. Barbie says:

I WON I WON I WON! Oh thanks Karen! LOLOL
JK!! Just wanted to see what it felt like to write that!

  9. Call Me Patty says:

Love both pairs of glasses! Just got a pair similar to the first ones, and they are classic and hip at the same time. P.S. BTW Bangs ARE the new botox.

  10. Nancy Blue Moon says:

How do you contain all of those big thoughts you have in that tiny little head of yours..Both pair look good on you..Congrats to all of the winners..I guess I will just keep stumbling around bumping into

  11. Susan says:

For bangs to be my botox, they’d have to be down to my clavicle. Congratulations to the winners! And both pair you chose look great on you!

  12. korrine says:

Coming from an ex-optician – both are fantastic and who wants to only have one choice? You need options!

  13. Marti says:

Wow, the red Holly pair (are they red?) look great on you, Karen! Very stylish! Love them!

  14. So love both of those on you for different reasons. The Holly comes in a green that I could be tempted by. Oh, yeah.

  15. Ann Marie says:

In these pics you remind me of Edie Falco in Nurse Jackie. Has anyone ever told you that before now?

  16. kelliblue says:

the Holly’s look FABU on YOU! Cute, funky, and such a fun color!

The Jesse’s? HELLLLL to the NO.

You look like you’re going for the hipster look that doesn’t even look good on hipsters. It looks like your cute (little) face is drowning!

  17. Bols says:

I don’t want to be a party pooper but I love you in the Holly frame. The Jesse not so much, too big for your face IMHO.

  18. Cass says:

Too funny. I ordered the Jesse’s too and thought “oh my, these are too big and I am not a hipster.” But I kept them anyway and ordered another pair. Now I have choices:)

  19. gabrielle says:

How do the glasses get fitted for you if they arrive in the mail? Besides an astigmatism, I need graduated lenses and my eyes aren’t aligned horizontally on my face (I know, eh?). Measurements are required to make them fit properly.

  20. Sera says:

I think you look awesome in both pairs. I do agree that the holly fits your face better, but I do like the hipster business going on with the Jesse. You totally pull it off!
