Today I'm in the mood for a philosophical discussion.
Is there any truth to the widely accepted theory that "Less is More"?
Let us examine this in the context of oxygen. If given the option of receiving either less or more oxygen, which would you choose? Let's see ... no oxygen or lots of oxygen? You don't have to be a scuba diver to know lots of oxygen is the right answer.
What about pizza? Would I be happier after eating one bite of pizza? Or an entire pizza? The answer is obvious. Entire pizza please.
And finally, sloths. Do I want one sloth? Or many sloths? Hundreds of sloths? I want the most amount of sloths possible, thank you.
So clearly, this theory about "less is more" is somewhat flawed. It is a fallacy possibly perpetuated by a diminutive phallus. That's my guess anyway.
However ... are there any circumstances where less really IS more?
Let us turn to the examination of tulips. I have 3 control groups for you to consider. The $1, $7 and $40 arrangement of tulips.
Table of Contents
The $1 tulip.
The $1 tulip will be representing the "less" group.
The $7 tulips.
The $7 tulips will be representing the mama bear group.
The $40 tulips.
The $40 tulips will be representing the "more" group.
So. Now that you have the information and visuals, it's time to collect the data. What do you think? In the case of orange tulips arranged for pleasing the eye, is the widely accepted theory true? Is less, more?
Or ... is MORE more?

Hmmmm.... your posts totally crack me up! I am so delighted to have found you.
My vote is that more is more. If it is applicable with pizza and all things good, it must be applicable to tulips, right? So says me and that would be my vote. Although I must say your staging is magnificent. Enjoyed everything in the photos beyond the delightful tulips albeit is less tulips or more tulips. Kudos to you!

Thanks M! I'm not sure where you came from, but I'm glad you're here! ~ karen

Any tulips are better than no tulips. Fresh flowers are always a hit no matter how many, IMHO.

Someone wrote in my autograph book when I was a kid :
There are tulips in the garden
There are tu;ips in the park.
But the best tulips -
Are the two lips in the dark.
I wouls love more please! But I cut my own tulips & use 5 old milk glass bud vases on my window sill & that makes me happy too.

A very nice friend of my husband sent me a basket of yellow tulips when I had my hysterectomy. I will never forget that wonderful man or his wonderful gesture! It made me feel so special. Now they are my favorites!

I wouldn't say no to any of those arrangments, but I love the biggest set of flowers!
Aside: please tell me where you got your clear coffee table from. Love it!

LeeAnn - The table I got at The Bay in Canada. (don't know where you're from) It's designed by Brian Gluckstein ... you may be able to Google it. I got it on sale cheap ... can't remember how much. ~ karen!

Tulips give the biggest bang for my buck, even if they do only last a week. That's over 600,000 seconds of happiness...!
While I typically buy and display them in multi-colored bunches, your single bloom pic really stands out as simple yet truly lovely and effective - I think I may try that this spring when mine bloom!

More! Definitely.

come to PAPA (bear, that is)! More is definitely MORE. And Tulips are definitely my favorite flower (memories of mom digging in the garden...we always had tulips in spring).
But $40? Dang girl, get you to Costco. I think a dozen is maybe...$10?
Karen
kelliblue - ??? The bunch for $40 is 50 tulips. ~ k!

When it comes to tulips, more is more for me!

none of the above. My cat eats tulip leaves and will jump on any table to seek them out. Therefore tulip bouquets of any size are not allowed in the house.

More More More and More is More! end of store.

More is DEFINITELY more!!! Especially against the backdrop of that fabulous orange scrubby pillow! (BTW I did vote for you just the other day - I checked out many of the other nominees and your blog is truly the best in my opinion!)

I like all of them! But probably $7 and $40 best.

In this case, I'd say less is more. The first picture with one tulip pops looks the best, and the orange tulip "pops" really nicely against the black and white. To me, the sheer simplicity of a single tulip makes more of a statement than tons of tulips.

I so love the $40 bunch.
I am gonna buy me some orange tulips at the farmers market this Saturday. Most likely a $4 bouquet since on of my pooches has a surgery tomorrow that is estimated to cost me $660.
