I haven't seen Baby Snacks since around when this video was taken. Mr. Snacks, who I'm barely, maybe, potentially certain is actually a Mrs. Snacks has been in the owl house most days and nights since then. We'll refer to them as the grey owl to make things easier. The red owl has been here once or twice.
No baby though. As soon as it was ready, it flew the coop, never to return. But a few times a day I can hear her softly whiney from somewhere in the neighbourhood trees. When I hear it, I look straight up to the owl house because I know the grey parent is going to answer back immediately.
Which is awfully nice of them when you consider how the baby owl used a wrestling move to smash its parent down into the owl box in the last video.

Awesome as always Karen. You are so lucky to have the chance to see it all unfold in your own yard. Hubby and I were out kayaking near Coldwater, ON. a few days ago and heard some Sandhill Cranes. We didn't know what the sound was but another kayaker later told us. She got to see them. Do you think the owls will stick around all winter?

Thanks for sharing the owl pictures and videos. Never having been witness to the raising of young or any owls in a nest, this has been an enjoyable journey. I've listened many nights to the great horned owls hoot, seen my cat duck when we heard a barn owl screech as we walked across an open field, found owl pellets in the woods, had one almost swoop into my open truck window as I slowly drove along an old dirt country road, but never seen an owl in a nest.
Very enjoyable. A little emotional. Thank you.
