    A Cake, A Kneecap & 2 Birthdays

August 2nd 1935 Betty made her way into the world. August 2nd 2021 Philip the standard poodle followed. Mayhem ensued etc. etc.

I know. It's the best birthday candle holder I've ever seen as well. I bought a bunch of them and when it's someone's birthday it goes on their cake and then they get to keep the candleholder.

In this case the cake belongs to my newly 88 year old mother Betty. Celebrations included Chinese food, cheesecake and a haircut.

Philip's birthday treat on the other hand was more in keeping with the Keto trend. Celebrations for him included a knee cap, wet dog food and a haircut.

    Betty

Love walks in the park and knitting her own socks.

    Cannot be trusted around food.

Social calendar includes visits with besties Margie, Earla & formerly Eileen (RIP).

Monthly hair appointment takes 30 minutes.

    Philip

Loves walks in the park and eating socks.

    Drools but will "leave it".

Social calendar includes spending time with bestie Sterling and barking at the air.

Monthly hair appointment takes 2 days.

Would you like to save this stuff?

We'll email you this post, so you can refer to it later.

This is what mid grooming looks like. A Happy Hoodie to protect his hearing and keep his topknot wet before I blow dry it.

He got his big boy haircut. You're just 16 puzzle pieces away from seeing it.

This is called a German trim. Don't use it for reference at a groomers. It's a BAD German because I'm still a terrible groomer. But you don't become good at anything until you're bad at it first.

    Have a good Sunday!

I don't like puzzles. I only did it so I could see Phillip...I love Phillip ❤️. This cut gives his handsome face quite a severe look.

That's exactly what I was going for. Except in the show world they don't call it severe, lol. They call it "flashy". ~ karen!

Oh wow! My little great niece Fern was 2 on the 2nd also. Same day as your Lip. I’m guessing he’s a tad taller than her with a bit more fur. 😂
She’s into bugs and butterflies so I’m planning to take her to the butterfly garden down near your garden plot. Have you been there?

Yup. I just walked Philip through it the other day. If you bring her on a Thursday at around 7 p.m. you'll be able to see bagpipe practice in the parking lot. ~ karen!

I hope you had a Happy Birthday, Betty! (You have excellent taste for cakes, btw) Philip< I know you had a challenging birthday, (grooming adventure) and yet you look so "chill" for your photo! I know the rest of the year is going to be happy and fun! Karen, the birthday candle holder is spectacular! All set to order - $10.99 in the States...and, then here in Canada $42.17 😢😢😭

Here you go. I did some Amazon Canada digging. You can get 2 birthday candle candelabras for $19. But they're a burnished gold, instead of shiny. I have both and like them both.

I like the cut. That's saying a lot since I don't normally like anything but a baby cut on a dog no matter how old. They just look so dang cuddly but Lip looks regal - great picture!

Happy birthday to Betty and Lip--that IS the best birthday candle holder I've ever seen. And you just had to throw some wisdom in there at the end: But you don't become good at anything until you're bad at it first.

He looks like a grown up. It's weird, lol. I wish I had the fortitude to just stick with one haircut but I can't. I don't think he's ever had the same cut twice. But this one is a good one to practice with so it'll be around at least until the winter. ~ karen!

I’ve never seen a German trim, poodles were originally bred in Germany so this looks official (and well done.) I’d like to see more of his eyes is all. He’s so handsome. Take care. Oh and I have so many green beans I need help disbursing or preserving. I depend on you for suggestions!

Me, too, on the green beans. I will blanch this latest batch and freeze them. Hubby says you can never have too many green beans but how many times in a row can you eat them for dinner! That’s why god invented those zip lock bags and vegan neighbors!

Thanks Terry. You can see his eyes in real life. :) MUCH more than you could when I he had a big huge puffy topknot that I had to keep in ponytails in order for him to see. And I've already started preserving green beans! I didn't get any beans last year so I'm being very careful to make sure I get some canned. I don't have a lot planted so I just do a couple of jars at a time. ~ karen!

Not sure about the preserving, (my first year getting any), but I like to roast them with oil and salt low and slow in the oven (or saute). They can be taken out when they are still a little soft or keep going till you get chips. Other than just salt I've also added nutritional yeast, pepper, and or onion powder. Last night I used taco mix spice. Just to use them up (same for pea pods) other ways I've prepared them, putting them on hot sandwiches (sandwich is cooked in toaster oven as an open sandwich before closing), throwing on pizza, tossing in the last few minutes the pasta or soup is cooking. I've only gotten several handfuls of green and yellow beans so far, but was getting a handful of peapods almost every day. Haven't yet grown enough of anything to really need preserving. Sadly. I'd hoped this year would be more productive, but the delicata vines are growing like gangbusters so maybe I'll get something to preserve this year.

Our first dog would bury the heads of rabbits he'd hunted and dig them up some time later for a crunchy treat. Ick. Lol.
(The two cats that grew up with him hunted with him sometimes, they acted more like dogs lol. One of them would follow us when we all took the dog walking around the neighborhood. That cat learned by watching us to always check both ways before crossing the street. Although come to think of it, he may have also seen the third cat get hit by someone's truck. That was my cat. I was 6. Utterly devastated. )

I saw them prepared once on some show, they sound weird, but I could almost smell them through the screen (after cooking)and they looked really good! I think they said it was a German delicacy.
