An Update on - The $25 Eyelash Growing Serum

1 year ago I conducted a 3 month long experiment. I put inexpensive eyelash serum on ONE eye for 3 months because I figured that was the best way to see if it worked. These are the initial results and my one year follow up.

Terez & Honor eyelash serum results.

I can probably just stop the post here and head right into the sales pitch. You don't need to squint, guess, or get out a measuring tape to know which eye I put the serum on.

I wasn't expecting such obvious results but a cheap Amazon eyelash serum actually worked and it worked really well. If that's all you wanted to know you can go ahead and buy it. No need to read further.

If you think you have no reason to believe me because I'm a blogger on the Internet, you're right. I could lie, I could Photoshop, I could do so many things and you have every right to question me.

    Background Check

This has been a decade long venture for me, on and off trying to lengthen my eyelashes. My hope being that if I have luxurious lashes no one will notice if I have wrinkles in my shirt, dirty fingernails, gum in my hair ... you get the picture.

In 2017 I tried magnetic lashes which resulted in a decidedly psychotic look.

In 2019 I bought very expensive Latisse, prescription eyelash growth serum. It worked well but it was expensive and inconvenient to get because I had to have a prescription and drive half an hour to pick it up.

I'll only dedicate hours to growing my own potatoes - not eyelashes.

    The Results

Results were so gradual they were barely noticeable. But by the end of 3 months the results were pretty extraordinary.

    • Visibly longer lashes
    • Noticeably more lashes

My results were from using the product once a day (their recommendation is actually twice a day) in a real life, haphazard manner. I was militant at first, then started forgetting to put it on, then got back on board ... In other words, I wasn't even terribly regimented about putting it on and it still worked well.

It boasts "Natural" ingredients, but you and I are educated. We know that statement is useless (much like the perforations on any cardboard, press your thumb here, box.)

This serum doesn't contain hormones or other things that are generally considered bad by people in lab coats.

Results of 3 months use on ONE eye's lashes using inexpensive Terez & Honor lash serum.

    Ingredients

For you science loving types, this is a list of the ingredients in the Terez & Honor lash and brow growth serum:

(But first to reiterate, this post isn't sponsored and I'm not faking the results)

Aqua, Glycerin, Myristoyl Pentapeptide-4, Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17, Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1, Aloe Ferox Leaf Juice, Wedelia Calendulacea Extract, Equisetum Arvense Extract, Serenoa Serrulata Fruit Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Arginine, Panthenol, Biotin, Panax Ginseng Root, Biotin/Folic Acid/Cyanocobalamin/Niacinamide/Pantothenic Acid/Pyridoxine/Riboflavin/Thiamine/Yeast Polypeptides, Cucurbita Pepo (Pumpkin) Seed Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Pentylene Glycol, Trifolium Pratense (Clover) Flower Extract, Xanthan Gum

3 Types of Lash Growth Serums

Lash growth serums are built 3 different ways.

    Chemical/Hormonal compounds

These are the ingredients in prescription serums, like the I tried, Latisse.

Would you like to save this stuff?

We'll email you this post, so you can refer to it later.

    • Prostaglandin serums: Use hormone-like compounds, banned in cosmetics by Health Canada.
    • Available only by prescription from a doctor.
    • Sold as medication, not cosmetics, due to lack of long-term testing.
    • Potential side effects: drooping eyelids, skin darkening, iris color change. (really quite rare occurrences)
    • Long lashes last only with continuous medication use.
    • Key ingredients: Prostaglandin (Bimatoprost) or analogues.

    Botanicals

    • Botanical extracts can improve lash health.
    • Botanical products may cause allergic reactions in sensitive skin.
    • Natural products have shorter shelf life after opening.
    • Beneficial botanical ingredients include DHT blockers: Natural Grape & Pumpkin Seed Extracts, Trifolium Pratense (Clover) Flower Extract, Panax Ginseng Root.

    Peptides

    • Peptides promote lash growth by lengthening growth cycle.
    • Different peptides serve different purposes targeting each phase of the lash growth cycle for.
    • Look for listed peptides like Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3, Myristoyl Pentapeptide-17, and Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1.
    • Peptide serums often contain conditioning and moisturizing agents: Biotin, Arginine, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Panthenol, Calcium Pantothenate, Niacinamide, Arctium Majus Root Extract.

This Terez & Honor serum is a combination of botanicals, peptides and a bunch of other things like pumpkin seed extract that deep down you'd never believe would actually make your lashes longer and fuller.

But it works, and I wanted to tell you about it.

    Update 1 Year Later

    • It still works. 🤷‍♀️
    • You need to remember to apply it a few times a week to maintain the length. Otherwise you'll wake up one morning with a bald eyeball.
    • They now apparently make a different version of the same lash serum that's exclusively for eyebrows with a different applicator.

If you're really hard core into lashes THIS is information you need to really understand everything about how eyelashes grow.

    Eyelash Growth Cycle

    👁️ 👁️

    1. Active Growth (Anagen Phase) :
      • This is when the eyelash actively grows from the follicle.
      • Duration: 30–45 days.
      • 35–40% of your upper lashes and 15% of lower lashes are in this phase at any given time.
    2. Transition Phase (Catagen Phase):
      • Active growth stops, and the follicle starts to shrink.
      • Duration: 2–3 weeks.
      • This phase ends when the lash is fully detached from the blood supply.

WEIRD, RIGHT?! Did you ever think of your eyelashes as having a blood supply?

    1. Resting or Shedding Phase (Telogen Phase):
      • The lash is fully formed and remains in place until it naturally falls out or is shed.
      • Duration: 4–9 weeks.
      • A new lash begins to grow underneath the old one, eventually pushing it out.
    • Each lash follicle operates independently, so your lashes don’t all grow, rest, or shed at the same time.
    • The entire growth cycle, from growth to shedding, takes approximately 3–4 months per lash.

If you tried this serum when I first mentioned it almost a year ago, let me and everyone else know what your experience was like. Did they lengthen? Did it itch? Did you smartly apply it to both eyes?

I did try it after your first post! I’ve been using it on my eyebrows, not eyelashes though. I have dark (well, some grays now) brows and they have been getting thinner (ok, more like I have complete empty spots) near my nose over time, so I was looking for something. I can say, this stuff DOES seem to work, but I’m also not very good at remembering to apply it. I’ve only done at night, and it seemed to take a few months. I say “seemed” because I forgot about it for awhile and have started up again. I’ll keep using it for sure. Thanks for the rec! Your advice is always top notch. :)

Wait... so if you stop using it, do your eye lashes REALLY fall out?
I went through chemo treatments earlier this year and my lashes are finally back. I'd love to try the serum, but don't want to lose my lashes again; been there done that! LOL

Yes. They do fall out. I've been using latisse, then generic latisse and this serum for about 15 years total. If you stop using any of them, your eyelashes fall out. If you want Long eyelashes it's worth committing to, but you don't want to stop.

I came here looking for the same answer! If that happens, I'm not going to try it (even though I bought it when she first recommended it but my habits are even more haphazard than Karen's and I only applied it for about 1 week).

Your eyelashes don't fall out. They go through their normal growth cycle all the time. So if you stop using the serum, your long lashes will fall out after their regular cycle of 3 months or so, just like it normally would. After a while of not using the serum, all the longer lashes you grew will eventually fall out as your newer shorter lashes grow back in. ~ karen!

Castor oil does the same thing for lashes (and hair). You can get cheap kits containing an empty, new mascara tube and put organic castor oil with your choice of carrier oil to thin it a bit. Works great. You can add some castor oil to your shampoo/conditioner to increase hair growth. I was the same way using my homemade lash serum - militant at first (I always apply before bed), then less and less. My lashes were thinning and shorter than when I was younger; now I only apply the stuff maybe once a week but my lashes have held up with their newer, thicker selves. Definite win!

When you write - “don’t forget to apply it several times a week or you will wake up with a bald eyeball”- you just mean all the length and new growth will be gone but your regular normal eyelashes wont fall out- is that correct? Just want to make sure before I try 😂 Thank you for trying it out and reporting back!!

I tried a different brand of lash serum a few years ago and it made my eyes itch so bad I had to stop using it and resigned myself to using mascara for the rest of my life. I have high hopes for this one and ordered from your link. Fingers crossed!!

I tried using this eyelash serum for my pitifully short lashes. Started out very committed to using it 2x a day (top and bottom lashes) and about 6 weeks in, gave myself a truly horrendous eye stye. I started having typical rosacea in the last couple of years and it's likely this was a contributing factor. So, if you've got rosacea, go easy on the serum! Maybe only 1x a day or just a couple times a week?

Hi Karen, I have tried other eyelash serums in the past and they really irritated my eyes (spent a fortune on the Latisse one only to use it once it hurt so much). Did the one you used sting at all?
      Thanks!

Hi Karen, it doesn't hurt me at all or make my eyes itch. Latisse made my eyes really dry and itchy. You need to apply it right at the lash line and not so much that it drips into your eyes. I think it will really depend on how sensitive your eyes are. ~ karen!

Unfortunately, I’ve seen absolutely no difference at all. I ordered a different serum and in the name of science, continued yours on one eye and the new one on the other. Zilch. I guess I have treatment-resistant lashes.

Regarding the eyelash serum, you and I seem to be the only ones who didn't have success with it. I bought two last year when I saw Karen's results and gave one to my daughter. She didn't notice a difference either. I was diligent too. Once a night without fail for well over three months.

I’m with the minority here; I tried the eyebrow formulation of Terez fairly rigorously and it did nothing for my brows. So I’m back to BrowBoy and I just picked up (phew, before the mail strike) a spoolie brush which spreads the BrowBoy around so naturally looking! Who knew! I just read that clothing stores are closing en masse but the Beauty sector is expanding rapidly. So, Karen, this post is so relevant! Of course, potato planting is always relevant too😃

Bought it - used it (twice a day at first) then down to once per day after a couple weeks - then, when I remembered. It worked great for me - until I stopped using it (ran out) and started finding lashes on my face in the morning!! I am back to using it and they are coming back fast. I am off to purchase the eyebrow serum now ... I STUPIDLY did eyebrow tattooing in the 90s and I now have large spaces where brows belong!!!!

Interesting. I have almost no eye lashes or brows at age 70. Not just gray but gone. I might give it a try. But like you I will start out militant and end up forgetting for days at a time.

And hopefully this isn't too TMI for some. But when we get older things do happen to our bodies that aren't quite pleasant. I had issues with lady bit dryness and a dribbling type of incontinence. A product I found on Facebook but purchased thru Amazon has made a world of difference. You apply it once a day "down there" and within a week there was so much difference. I have absolutely no affiliation with this company, don't get paid anything to promote, but I promise you it is a wonder.

I've always had insignificant eyelashes. When I saw your results, I had to give it a try. It's hard to say when the miracle happened, but it did. I had noticeably longer, dare I say alluring, eyelashes. It was amazing! I didn't experience any type of irritation, except for the time when I missed my lashes and put the serum on my eyeball.
