I have a relative that’s become obsessed with buying Tide when it’s on sale. If everyone on earth ever falls into a ginormous mud puddle, I have a direct line to where we can find enough detergent to get everyone clean and still have enough Tide left over to get Nick Nolte presentable.
I'm no stranger to this kind of behaviour. Tin foil. I always think I need tin foil. I currently have 5 boxes of tin foil.
In 4 hours, if I go to a grocery store, I will buy tin foil, convinced I don't have any.
Then there are the things I always have to keep in stock. ALWAYS.

The ALWAYS List
These are the things we ALWAYS have to have.
The things we always want, always need, always put in our carts. Mine are going to be completely different than yours because we all have different “keep in stocks” but I bet you could name 5 things right now that you always make sure you have.
For my mother it's those crispy onions in a can that are used to elevate any dish from a casserole to a jello mould (or some other modern concoction.) She also always has bread, mini bags of potato chips, and pork chops.
If you want an Avocado lime cream casserole with a Diet Coke Yogurt sauce … I will be able to prepare that for you any time, day or night.
And I will be able to wrap up the leftovers in a tin foil packet the approximate size and weight of a hotel safe.
Sometimes I make the Greek yogurt because it's fun and a great way to use up milk that's on its way to becoming suspiciously firm.
I just realized this very moment that I've listed 6 things. I'd like to announce this post is now about 6 items.
Checkout Regrets
I look at what other people have on the cashier's conveyor belt and wonder about their food all the time. Often I’m jealous of it & wonder why in the world I didn’t buy a 24 lb watermelon or 16 cans of vanilla Ensure.
I wonder if this is the first time they bought that thing or do they always cook with that weird ingredient I’ve never seen before. I wonder what they’re going to make with it, will their kids eat it and why I’m kind of envious of their can of Chef Boyardee Raviolis.
I’m curious about food and people’s food habits. You know how people say no one cares about your food photos on Instagram? I DO! I CARE ABOUT YOUR FOOD PHOTOS!!!
I just don't care about Instagram.
That's partly why I'm publishing a This Week in Photos post now. It's because I don't like Instagram and I'd rather show you any photos I think are worthy of sharing, here - on my own website.
If you missed This Week in Photos, you missed this ...
I'm not posting photos to Instagram anymore. I'm posting them in This Week in Photos.
It's sometimes difficult to work a photo of Philip trying to rescue my mother as she gets eaten by my bed into a regular post. Luckily that photo and others like it now have a home in This Week in Photos as opposed to the bottom of the Instagram algorithm.
Back to the grocery talk.
Those 5 little grocery items
So ... because I’m wildly curious about food and generally know nothing about you I'd like you to tell me what 5 foods are on your ALWAYS list. What are the 5 things that you always make sure you have in stock at home?
Extra points if you're Canadian and Kraft Dinner is on that list.
EXTRA extra points if it's all stuff that goes in your medicine cabinet.
SUSAN ROBINSON
Where do I begin...I live in Queensland, Australia and it is hard to make a list of just 5 things I must have. So the top 5 of about 15 things are
1. Brussel sprouts
2. Butter
3. Bananas
4. Chilli
5. Bacon
I love making and eating homemade pizza with the topping of bacon, chilli and banana (don't knock it until you try it)...
6. Mangoes
7. Avocado
8. Grapes
9. Pink lady apples
10. Tomatoes
11. Lebanese cucumbers
12. Potatoes
13. etc
14. etc
15. etc
If you are wondering why Brussel sprouts is my number 1 favourite - I shred them and use them instead of cabbage in a coleslaw. I also shred them and use them in chow mien recipes - in fact, I think I will have to drop down to the shops and get some more...
Karen
You're a Brussel sprouts person? I'm gonna have to keep an eye on you. ;) ~ karen!
